COMMUNITY & FAMILY SERVICES

Safety, Care, & Refuge

Since moving to the downtown core in June 2017, The Salvation Army has come to be recognized as a valued and welcome refuge from the weather, and from the stresses of living in often precarious circumstances. For the local street population we provide a space of safe refuge, warmth and care. We come to know our clients as individuals, and in each one we acknowledge the qualities of strength, resilience, and creative problem solving that guides their daily lives.

Community Coffee

Join us Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon for coffee, snacks and fellowship in the front lobby.

Schools

Read and Feed Breakfast Program
In partnership with local elementary schools, we support the Read and Feed program that supplies breakfast to so many children in our community during the school year.

Summer Breakfast & After the Bell Program
During the summer, we provide continuity for the school-based Breakfast program. Twice weekly parents can pick up fresh fruit and bagged lunch items for their school-aged children. Please register your K-18yr old child with our Intake Worker for July / August distribution.

These programs are available because of the support from our community and Food Banks Canada. Thank you!

Milk for Kids Program

Families can register their children in this program, which provides one litre of milk per week, per child.

Seniors

We work to meet the unique needs of seniors in various ways.

Thrift Store Vouchers for Household & Clothing

We understand that there is an occasional need for help with clothing and household items. To discuss your situation, make an appointment with our Community and Family Services Coordinator, who will assess your need and if possible, provide a voucher for use in our Thrift Store.
